Tracy K Short Bio 147 words

Beausejour, Manitoba’s Tracy K energizes the crowd with innate showmanship as an abundantly talented main stage festival and event act for more than twenty five years. With nine awards for her expressive singing, excellent songwriting, and exceptional harmonica skill, her contemporary repertoire of original material invokes deep dives into early jazz and folk-blues with broader influences of Billie Holiday, Koko Taylor and Bonnie Raitt. Four albums and radio airplay inspired tour dates across Canada and the US which include the Memphis International Blues Challenge, the Toronto Blues Society Women’s Blues Revue, and a Western Canadian Music Awards ‘Blues Artist of the Year’ nomination. With the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Tracy K procured a tribute to Billie Holiday, and ‘Legendary Songs by Legendary Women’. Tracy K keeps her blue flame burning with her acoustic duo or top notch band of respected music veterans, delivering very dynamic, compelling performances.

A FEW PRESS QUOTES

"Tracy K’s set at the Memphis International Blues Challenge not only kept my foot tapping but brought many smiles to my face.  Her talent matches her energy on stage, and both are substantial.  Great vocals, great harp, and she seems to genuinely have a ball while sharing her talent with you. That is a tough combination to beat!" Mick Kolassa, IBC judge 2013

"...a million voices seem to be trapped in that tiny little instrument and Tracy K seems to know how to exorcise them in front of wowed crowds every time. It was my pleasure to invite Tracy K to the 2007 'Canada Reads, Ontario Rocks' event where she composed a song that had some in tears! It was again my pleasure to record Tracy for Canada Live, as I hope the rest of the country discovers her talent LIVE on stage."- Alan Neal, host, Bandwidth (CBC Radio One), Canada Live (CBC Radio Two)

"Tracy's blessed with a magnificent voice, raw power and passion tempered by a tender fragility. If there's emotional depth to the material she plumbs it; and given the chance to reveal something of herself, she's mesmerizing; there are moments here approaching the sublime." - John Taylor, MN Blues

"Thunder Bay's Tracy K wowed the crowd at the Blues Summit with her engaging stage presence and a killer band." - Maple Blues Magazine

MUSICAL SUMMARY

Tracy K is fluent in both Jazz and Blues, quite effortlessly blurring the lines between the two and their sub genres, crossing over into adult contemporary, folk, and country sounds. Being so flexible within a multitude of styles makes it difficult to define Tracy K in the systemically categorical nature of the music business. Think Bonnie Raitt, whose vocals and repertoire influenced Tracy K’s sound more than any other artist. Discovering Raitt some forty five years ago informed Tracy K’s musical knowledge of Blues legends and other lesser known celebrated songwriters. This is what inspired Tracy K’s broad, unique blend of musical tastes. But for all intents and purposes she has been labeled a Blues artist, mostly due to it’s being a base genre from which many other musical forms were born.
